Howly Monday everybody. Couldn't not mention that today's a very special one imo - the European release of that other Sydney band The Vines' new album! So I sat down with my headphones and Future Primitive had me there in sheer awe for half an hour. There's never a moment when you loose focus, I've never known myself so captivated, and when it finished it was like I'd gone on this big journey. I could write for hours about it, it's more varied, creative and cross-genre then even your average Vines album. To sum up I think it's their most listenable and poppy album to date, and there's less anger. It feels spacey, colorful & trippy but at the same time seems more structured and sensible than their earlier stuff... I felt it's as much retro as it is forward and futuristic. The production's wonderful and there's a some awesome electronic effecty stuff going on throughout. Perhaps not the mad explosion that was Highly Evolved, but perhaps all the better for it - Future Primitive has clearly been given a lot of care and attention, and I think does more justice to their 17 years of experience than anything they've done before. Here's the video for the first single, Gimme Love: Edit: I just have to post this stunning acoustic of 'Future Primitive' I found - Craig seems to have gotten around the problem of acoustically translating some of the effecty madness in this song by doing this awesome owl impression! Oh... yeah and stream the album in full here at faster louder.
