When you've been out with your guy/girl for a nice, quiet Saturday night drink or meal and you're back at your house or apartment with a coffee (South American or East African or Javan Fair Trade coffee of course) and you want to sit back and relax with some calming music playing before you move on to.... whatever.... try listening to these to get you in the mood:

They are, first up, Sophie Zelmani and, second, Lene Marlin. They are similar in that they both write and play acoustic-based, bit of piano, bit of strings, softish indie/rocky stuff, they are both female (come on, women sing a lot better than men, in general anyway, though there are exceptions) and they are both Scandinavian. It's amazing how they can write such lyrics in a foreign language (English) at such a young age. Lene Marlin made her first record, in English, when she was seventeen. I'm half decent at French and German but I couldn't write songs in my own tongue, never mind someone else's.
Lene (pronounced Lay-na) is from Norway and has released three albums - Playing My Game (1999), Another Day (2003) and Lost in a Moment (2005). Sophie (pronounced Sophie) is Swedish and has been around a bit longer - she has recorded eight albums: her first, remarkably called "Sophie Zelmani", was released in 1995.
Like Aussies, Scandinavians are rather good at making music. Give them a listen.
