Kid B - Posted: Fri Jul 06, 2007 3:32 pm So... what do you guys think of Editors? They seem to be one of those bands that you either love or you hate. I, personally, think that "An End Has a Start" is the best album to have gone to #1 in a loooong time. Plus, they like Howling Bells and vice-versa. Apparently, Tom Smith's going to the first Bella Union 10th Anniversary show next week specifically to see them.

village bug - Posted: Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:20 pm Voted yes but not convinced about the new album, yet. I think it needs persistence, and the right, dark mood to listen to it. First album had more immediate appeal. In the same genre the new Interpol album wipes the floor with this one in my book.
Not been here for a bit and I see old threads have been brutally culled like cute defenceless seals on the ice, but way before that the "Other Stuff" section met its demise, where this thread might have belonged. Miss it myself...
Still waiting for the new Radiohead album then Kid B? They're fast becoming the new Stone Roses.

I think it needs persistence, and the right, dark mood to listen to it. First album had more immediate appeal. In the same genre the new Interpol album wipes the floor with this one in my book. "An End Has a Start" is definitely a grower, yeah. At first, I wasn't convinced, either - compared to, say, "Bullets" or "Fingers in the Factories," it sounded... bland. But it reveals itself with repeated listens. Now, I love it; it's dark, moody and intense. But - but! - it's no "Turn on the Bright Lights." And neither's the new Interpol album, unfortunately. : ( . I've listened to it, like, ten times now and, although it has grown on me, I'm still disappointed. ... That said, the likes of "Wrecking Ball" and "The Lighthouse" are, for me, stone cold Interpol classics. And "Antics" took a loooong time to grow on me, so... yeah, who knows? ... Oh, yeah, by the way, Interpol are one of my favourite bands. Regardless of whether or not I grow to love "Our Love to Admire" (which I'm listening to again right now), Editors can't touch 'em. : P . village bug - Posted: Thu Jul 12, 2007 10:20 pm Still waiting for the new Radiohead album then Kid B? They're fast becoming the new Stone Roses. I am, yeah, lmfao. And waiting... and waiting. They're in the process of mastering it, though, so, unless something goes drastically wrong, it shouldn't be long now. I hope. >_< !

village bug - Posted: Sun Jul 15, 2007 9:14 pm Keep at "Our Love to Admire" and it'll work it's magic. I agree with you about the stand-out tracks, which is funny cos in some ways they're the most un-Interpol-like ones on the album. I'm afraid with "Our Love.." out, "An End Has a Start" is never going to get a space in my CD player again. I know from interviews it was born out of real grief on Tom's part, so I hate to say this but the feel of it is just too contrived somehow.
And I agree "Bright Lights" pisses all over both of these anyway.

EveSP - Posted: Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:08 pm I love most everything they do and if it wasn't for them, I may never have been introduced to Howling Bells. Saw HB for the first time supporting Editors, at Brixton Academy early last year. ;D First saw, heard, and became a fan of, Editors when they supported Keane at their Eden Project show in the summer of 2005.

I keep loving them. This year i saw them two times. Even the second concert was a bit short because they were opening for R.E.M. They are great live, they still need to grow as a live band, but i love the energy that they put in their shows, very particular and intense (during the best nights). Plus i like a lot the new album and Tom Smith has got one of the most interesting voice i've heard lately. I have a growing love for editors music. so i choose YES!

Not a fan of Editors' 2nd album... but their debut "The Back Room".... one of few albums I can listen from start to finish.. Fans of Editors MUST hear their debut, it is spectacular! HBs and Editors have a pretty close bond I think, HBs first live show was supporting Editors I think... and when they were both in Australia in 07 at a festival Juanita popped on stage and sung a duet with Editors... www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBQGImv-C-o
