No, I didn't see the Salad videos, so I'll have a look later.
And I've just listened to Black Box Recorder "The Facts Of Life". They're excellent. It says they're unsigned - they won't be for long.

That's creepy, someone suggested Black Box Recorder to me yesterday and after giving Facts Of Life half a dozen listens I figured you guys'd appreciate it and wanted to share it. Guess I'm too late.
They were signed when they released their first 3 albums, by the way. They've been on a break for a couple of years and that's the only reason they don't have a label right now, I'm sure any label would love to pick their new album up.
Their cynical story-based sweet pop songs remind me of Belle & Sebastian. Which is a good thing.
EDIT: As for Cowboy Racer, it's funny hearing Dutch accents, they're really obvious to me (because I'm dutch and all).

Yes, Dutch people gave a very particular way of pronouncing the letter 's'! On one of the Salad videos Marijne is riding a motorbike Cities Burning Down style! Her voice also reminds me of Nat Johnson - here: www.myspace.com/judybeatFinally, where can I hear more Black Box Recorder stuff?

Last.fm has quite a lot... but of course there are also less legal ways of obtaining albums if you're up for that. (I personally do download albums, but only to decide if they're worth buying - there's a lot of music I would've never bought if I didn't download - helps ease my conscience).

Thanks for that. I do more or less the same as you - I use sound recording software to record music from Myspace, listen to it in the car and if I really like it I buy the CD. I've bought lots of CDs this way that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.

Just listened to Nat Johnson and agree - not exactly the voice itself but her style of singing. The three BBR albums are all great. If you enjoy the song "Facts Of Life", then go for the second album with the same title, which I think is their best and almost perfect. The first one, "England Made Me", comes pretty close though. It is a little sparser, Velvets-style, without the synthpop introduced on "Facts Of Life". Production-wise the difference between them could be compared to the difference between the two Howling Bells albums. The third album ("Passionoia") continues the sound of the second but with a few average songs inbetween the highlights.

So, how about the new sensation Anna Calvi then? I have been listening to her new album few days now. I´m not sure yet how I feel about the whole album but it definitely has good sounds. Song like Blackout (my favourite) might be something like Bells, especially the debut album.
