As for Halogen, their label Karmic Hit has some high quality MP3s for download on their site: www.karmichit.com/Hall_of_Gifts.htmlThe song "Unitl the end" was the one which made me buy their album.

There's lots of Steve Kilbey (The Church) here too.

Yep. John Kilbey, Steve Kilbey's brother, is the one behind Karmic Hit actually. Here are more free (or in the case rather: "free, but donate, please") downloads from their site, all songs never released before (but no Halogen stuff on this page): www.karmichit.com/EMC.htmlAnother hint regaring Halogen: their album "Building on the edge of the sky" (their second one) is completely different from their other albums. It's a kind of "remix album" of their other songs. It's very well done, and I like it a lot, but's it's often very electronic and "remixy". So be prepared in case you think about buying... As for Blonde Redhead's "23": I like this album and thought about posting it here as well at first. But after listening to it again it just seems too different from the HB.

I received Autodrone's earlier Panic EP a few days ago, and it's quite a different style musically, and the mix tends towards up front vocals.. if I didn't know otherwise, I'd have thought it was a different band entirely. Can't say I like it...
And I received the Strike A Match CD today and listened twice.. and I'm having mixed reactions.. in general, the guitars seem a bit too loud and vocals a bit too quiet.. maybe it'll grow on me... Kerosene Dreams still kicks ass though.

After much searching I've managed to get hold of Halogen's Sirens CD. It arrived this morning and I'm listening to it now - it's brilliant. I bought it from rockinghorse.net (Aussie-based record store). I've looked for their first album Save The Ones You Love but I can't find it. [EDIT] I've just found it here www.sanity.com.au and bought it! I also bought Autodrone's Strike A Match a month or so back. That's great too - I've discovered lots of great new music here!

I'm too late, but you could have gotten Halogen stuff directly from their record label Karmic Hit: www.karmichit.com Anyway. Isn't (or rather: wasn't ) that a fabulous band? I'm looking forward to everything Jasmine Yee will release in the future... luckily, she does work in other projects...

There must be something in the Aussie water (or more probably in their sunshine) that gives their female singers such wonderful voices!

Guess what? I have cancelled my order with sanity.com.au because they don't have it in stock. Why do they say they have it in stock when they don't?
Anyway, thanks timetunnel. I've now ordered Save The Ones You Love direct from karmic hit.

You're welcome. Karmic Hit has proved to be fast and reliable in the past, so you should have it in your hands soon. Jasmine Yee is going eletronic now, it seems. Her new project is called "Sheselexx": www.myspace.com/sheselexx (some snippets are reused from Halogen songs). Also, she's contributed her voice to The Transients' song "Can't let you be lonely": www.myspace.com/thetransientsmusic

I´ve been listening to the new album by Asobi Seksu. Hush is the name of the album. It has something that might be somewhat similar to Bells, especially Radio Wars. Not exactly but slightly similar. I see that they have been mentioned here before but why not again?

Save The Ones You Love arrived this morning all the way from the other side of the world. And they sent me Building On The Edge Of Sky free gratis! This is Halogen's second album and is described as "a collaboration between Halogen and 15 electronic producers". Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
Karmic Hit - highly recommended.

Just saw this thread, so will repeat what I wrote elsewhere:
Juanita's voice mostly reminds me of Marijne van der Vlugt's, the singer of the criminally underrated mid-90s band Salad. I have never seen this connection made before, but actually it was this similarity that instantly attracted me to Howling Bells in the first place. "Low Happening", in particular, could be a typical Salad song. The same goes for the chorus of "The Bell Hit". And on the new one "Digital Hearts" reminds me most of Marijne - especially the "alright" after the middle eight at 2:44. A cousin of mine actually thought it was Salad when I played it to her.

I'd never heard of Salad before but some of Marijne van der Vlugt's vocals are uncannily similar to Juanita (her high notes are quite different though). You can easily tell it's not Juanita but some of her intonations are almost identical, like when she sings the word "fly" in Wolves Over Washington. Salad's Myspace page www.myspace.com/saladuk says it's the official B-sides and rarities page. Do they have a page of their album stuff? Anyway, I'm going to check them out further. [edit] And also her new group Cowboy Racer. [edit2] Just listened to Cowboy Racer on Myspace. I like it.

[edit] And also her new group Cowboy Racer. Because they split in 1998 it never occurred to me to look them up on MySpace. They really had some brilliant B-sides such as "Plank" from the current selection. There is no page with album tracks, although "Wolves Over Washington" actually is an album track, off their second and last album "Ice Cream" (1997). The first one is called "Drink Me" (1995) and before that there was a compilation of their first three EPs called "Singles Bar". Reading the old blogs on MySpace, I couldn't believe they put up three unreleased songs years ago. Did you notice Marijne also put up all the videos to the singles? Including such excellent songs as "Drink The Elixir", "Motorbike To Heaven", "Your Ma" (all from "Drink Me") and "I Want You" (non-album single). As for Cowboy Racer, just listened to some of the songs on MySpace and I'm quite impressed, though the singing style reminds me more of Lush than Salad. And on "Forever" she sounds like Sarah Nixey from Black Box Recorder.
