I'm going to post here audio and video from Howling Bells' March 2009 UK tour. First, video, in two bits, from the show at The Plug in Sheffield on March 14th. These are strawdogrob's videos (downloaded from another source), some of which you may have seen (in poorer quality) on Youtube. It's not the whole gig, but 10 out of the 14 songs. Rob could only have been closer to Juanita if he was standing alongside her on stage. www.megaupload.com/?d=K5822NGBwww.megaupload.com/?d=L88ZMZ4MAnd here's the audio from the above: www.megaupload.com/?d=VCJ44SVR www.megaupload.com/?d=1MR5O8W7Next, audio only of the Portsmouth gig on March 4th. It's a zip file containing lots of mp3 files - one for each song. And the bit where Juanita describes Glenn's upset stomach should be avoided at all costs. Apparently, so should be the toilet after Glenn has used it. www.megaupload.com/?d=UM0W1QSA

The Sheffield Plug video I downloaded was originally DVD files (.VOB files), for which I found software to create a proper DVD (i.e. one that you can put in your DVD player to watch on TV, rather than on your PC).
Sorry for all the VOB/DVD/PC abbreviations, but if anybody wants a copy of the DVD, let me know and I'll send you one (for a blank DVD in return). It's about 40 minutes long.

I'll take you up on your kind offer mate....I'll send you the Manchester audio in return. I'll drop you a line when I have it on CD. There was another DVD available for download from March from Dime, did you grab it?

PM me with your address and I'll send you a copy.
I (eventually) downloaded it from dimeadozen so it's probably the same one you're talking about.
It took literally weeks to download and I'm currently trying to download an audio recording of the Birmingham gig in March. I've grabbed 0.7% of it after three days of trying!
If anybody can explain to me the advantage of torrents over uploading to somewhere like Megaupload I'd be grateful to hear it, because I haven't found one yet!

Although I use torrents fairly frequently (out of neccesity, if that's the only way to obtain certain 'stuff'), I still fail to see any real advantages they have over a good, old fashioned, downloadable file. Torrents rely too much on factors which are unreliable (other people being online, their connection speed, etc). Give me a solid link and a high guarantee of a speedy download any day of the week!

Eventually (it took six days) I have succeeded in downloading the Brimingham Barfly gig from March 8th 2009. I could have done it in under an hour from Megaupload. Anyway, the files were all .flac files (uncompressed I presume) so I've converted them to mp3. They're zipped and can be downloaded from here: www.megaupload.com/?d=J2R63CONI haven't used the conversion software before and neither have I listened to all the mp3 files, so let me know if any of them are corrupted or anything. I also posted the Islington gig from February 9th in another thread so I'll put that link here too, even though it wasn't part of the March tour. Islington O2 Academy www.megaupload.com/?d=0RQJP2YBThe text file that came with the Birmingham download is this: Howling Bells Barfly Birmingham England 8th March 2009 Lineage: Church Audio STC-11 mics>Microphone Madness MM-CBM-MINI Battery Box>iRiver iHP-120 (Rockboxed) Transfer: iRiver iHP-120 > usb > wav > Audacity 1.3beta (Amplify, Fade-in/fade-out) > CD Wave (Track splits) > FLAC Tracklist: 1.Radio Wars Theme 2.Treasure Hunt 3.It Ain't You 4.Broken Bones 5.Blessed Night 6.Nightingale 7.Setting Sun 8.Golden Web 9.Ms Bell's Song 10.Into The Chaos 11.Digital Hearts 12.Low Happening 13.Cities Burning Down 14.Encore Break 15.To L.A. Location: About 10 feet from left stack, 2 rows from barrier at edge of stage Notes: Mics mounted on T-shirt collar pointing towards stack. Bit of minor distortion on the vocals for a few seconds during Broken Bones (about 1:28 in and also for a second at the end of the track) and for a second at 2:43 into Low Happening. I don't know what caused this, might possibly have come from the PA because its when the vocals got really loud, but its on the unprocessed wave. It's nothing of any significance but I thought it was worth noting. Juanita wandered into the crowd during Golden Web and brushed past me at the edge of the barrier and then stood just behind me whilst she was singing. I resisted the temptation to turn round and gawp for the sake of the recording - what a pro!

Thanks blade. Not to sound like a complainer or anything but the Birmingham recording the mids are pushed way too high and it makes it sound a bit muddy. I fudged around with EQ'ing it and I found it much more pleasing following a sharp "V" pattern across the board. With 31 khz at 12 db > 500 khz between -4 and -5 db > and finally back to 12db at 16k. Listening to music files on computer if they are sperate tracks becomes annoying continually having to click on the next one to start it. So I prefer to burn to cd. But if I have to re-EQ it to my listening satisfaction that just means another generation from the original I have to go and that's beyond the fact it's already been converted to MP3. If the taper could be made to EQ the line somewhere closer to the one above from the original master and then convert to flac "us" the listener could avoid any further impedance of quality.

I'm sorry I don't understand 99% of what you have just said!
The only bit I did understand was where you say individual tracks are annoying and you prefer to burn it to CD. I agree with both sentiments, but the individual tracks is how it came when I downloaded it. I rarely listen to music on a PC - nearly always CD on the home hi-fi or in the car. And I don't know a way of burning .flac files to CD, so I had to convert them.
I have the .flac files if you want them. Let me know - I'll upload them to Megaupload - it's about 290MB, whereas the MP3 files are less than 60MB.

I now have an audio copy of the gig at Manchester Academy 3 (it's always great to have a recording of a gig you attended!) on March 15th 2009, and also the one from Oxford Academy on November 14th 2008 (supporting Mercury Rev). Both are courtesy of fellow board member ledjarde, so many thanks to him. They are excellent quality. Here are the links: Manchester www.megaupload.com/?d=VGJ1LY2GOxford www.megaupload.com/?d=9FVHXQO5 They're zip files containing wma files. Track listings: Manchester: 1.Radio Wars Theme 2.Treasure Hunt 3.It Ain't You 4.Broken Bones 5.Blessed Night 6.Nightingale 7.Setting Sun 8.Golden Web 9.Ms Bells Song 10.Into The Chaos 11.Digital Hearts 12.Low Happening 13.Cities Burning Down 14.To L.A. Oxford: 1. Setting Sun 2. Wishing Stone 3. Cities Burning Down 4. Treasure Hunt 5. Nightingale 6. Blessed Night 7. Into The Chaos 8. Low Happening 9. Radio Wars Theme This is one more song (Blessed Night) than when I saw them on the same tour at Leeds Academy.
