The original version of The Day The Earth Stood Still.
I haven't seen the remake so far, but having see the original now and having read lots of bad reviews about the remake I'm pretty sure I'll never watch the remake.
As a little Sci-Fi geek I was also quite astonished that I'd never ever seen The Day The Earth Stood Still before. It's a really good movie. Due to the remake there was a lot of very detailed and intersting background information about the original in a very good German movie magazine recently - especially how the cast and the making of it had to deal with these McCarthy dorks.
Batman: The Dark Knight on DVD - film of 2008 for me I think - just an astonishing piece of work - it justified the hype, the performances were great, the action was great but didn't overlook the story, superbly written - dialogue often witty and also profound in parts which not being too preachy/politky.
Wall E - never caught it in cinemas but another triumph for Pixar - probably their darkest film to date, more of an eco thriller more than anything else but still has those beautiful aand charming characters.
Kill Bill Vol.1 - Saw it in the cinema and own it on DVD but the other half rented it on Blu Ray. Still a great film - completely OTT but great soundtrack and performances - the House At Blue Leaves is still an incredible set piece
Imagine the cute quirkiness of Amélie crossed with One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.
Cracking film and I'll certainly give this another watch in the future.
watch Old Boy, by Park Chan-Wook again, it's just my favorite movie ever. just, you have to know that it's not the same... universe =) (i may have read somewhere he did I'm a cyborg... for his children?!)
