It was not osmosis with me - I was bitten by a bug called "Love Is"... Actually, reading your reply, I realised I missed a trick - should have said "Aus-mosis" !

I can recall the NME website having brief snippets of songs from the album to listen to. After a quick listen I didn't really get why they'd given it 9/10 and forgot about them. Carpy then mentioned them on another board so I had a proper listen to them and realised what I'd been missing. Saw them at M/cr Club Academy a few tours back and been a big fan since. Moral of the story - have a proper bloody listen when checking new bands!!

July 12th, 2007. Musilac Festival, Aix-Les-Bains, France I was there mainly for Placebo, and also for Mademoiselle K, a french singer. So, before Placebo, were 2 local bands, then a french name "Les Plasticines"; it was like torture... i'm still trying to forget it =) and so came Howling Bells. I didn't check their myspace/site before the show, so i didn't know what it was gonna be. They started to play, with "Cities burning down". At the beginning of the song, i thought "hum, sounds nice". When Juanita started to sing, my girlfriend told me: "That, I love it", and it was exactly what i was thinking. I have only 2 memories about this show. The next one is that i fell in love with the way Joel moves when he plays on stage. i don't know why, but i think it's awesome ^^. ow, in fact, i remember a 3rd thing: juanita's big sunglasses ;D a while after the show, i bought the album, and still loved them. edit: www.sensationrock.com/poprock/index.php?/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,58/catid,86/PageNo,1/ => other pics from the show did i tell you that Juanita told us it was the most wonderful place where they ever played? ;D

This international presence is great! We now have members from France, Germany, Finland, Italy and the USA (have I missed anywhere?) Strangely, nobody from Australia though.
Lovely pictures clac! I've added the link to my Howling Bells Gigography (see elsewhere on the Board).

The first time I heard the Bells was on Mark Radcliffe's show (RIP) in 2006. I think the first song I heard was 'Ballad for the Bleeding Hearts' (I was half asleep), then they came in for a session, played Setting Sun and I was hooked. I intended to buy the first album then, but, well, I didn't. Then 'Radio Wars' came out. I got that last week. The first album is still top of my wishlist though, so next time...after about 2 years, I should (hopefully) get it.
PS. Just realised I'm the first replier to this topic in 9 months. Oh well...

Welcome aboard maestro 267! It would be good if every new member would tell their story here, but perhaps they don't find it. If you haven't got Howling Bells yet you may have trouble, as it's notoriously difficult to find. Townsend records had some not too long ago but now it's unavailable: www.townsend-records.co.uk/product.php?pId=6648370&pType=1The band are advertising recordstore.co.uk on the Myspace page for the new stuff but they don't have the debut album. www.redeye.com.au have it available to order, shipped from Australia. www.rockinghorse.net say they have it in stock, also shipped from Australia.

I recommend Red Eye Records www.redeye.com.au that Blade mentioned ^ I always pop in when I'm in Sydney, and have ordered CDs/Records from their site.

I first heard Howling Bells last friday night in Des Moines,IA. ;D I arrived late, they were halfway done with their set. I found my seat, sat down, and they started playing Cities Burning Down. I thought "whoaaa, what is this?!" Her voice was clean and beautiful and soaring, the band sounded great and they had this great intensity. I was in the nosebleed section in the corner but I had a great shot of the guitaur player, and I can remember looking down and seeing him just tearin' up his axe. He looked as if he was gonna rip one of his strings right off! I mean he was goin' ta town on this thing, man. It was awesome! Then they played Treasure Hunt and Radio Wars, and man I was hooked! I said "heyyyyy I like this!" "Who is this band?!" Then Snow Patrol came out and played a few songs and I thought "oh, sit down!" They were as you say in England "rubbish" or at least that's what I thought anyway. I wanted more Howling Bells! So, I traveled to Omaha the following evening and got there early so I could find me ticket and hopefully not miss anything, I didn't! The whole set was wonderful, they played Nightingale, Into the Chaos, Broken Bones, as well as others, every song was great! I'm kicking myself I didn't see the full set the first night , but so glad I was able to see all of it the next. Oh, btw, my favorite song is Setting Sun, after watching their videos on Youtube, such a good number. They didn't play it in Omaha but may have the first night, don't know though, seeing as how I was slow to arrive!

Wow most of you are long-time fans, that's impressing. However the majority discovered them at live gigs - that's kind of funny because you actually go to the concert to see another band and unaware of all you are able to listen to one of the best bands of the last years.
I just know the Bells for a month (from the CP gig) but I found out so much since then, thanks Internet. The Bells could really become one of my favorite bands - their music is so unique and from their interviews I can see that they still have their feet on the ground. And I hope that they will not become much more popular - mostly it ruins the music and the characters.
