I had the pleasure of seeing Elephant play supporting Stealing Sheep recently, and thought they would be of interest to people on here, in most part since singer Amelia Rivas has a notably similar vocal style to Juanita. Their music's really mellow and dreamy, quite simple but with some interesting effects and electronic elements. They play and perform well, and I found their set really relaxing and uplifting. You can stream a number of songs on their bandcamp page, imo I think the songs 'Ants' and 'Allured' are a good start point, but it's all worth a listen.

Thanku. Metric are huge to my mind, there's not a single album of theirs I don't thoroughly love. Worth looking up on Rdio or Spotify... On the tone of my above post, I have to say Stealing Sheep themeslves are phenomenal, their debut 'Into The Diamond Sun' is my top album of 2012 in fact. Aside from being back to back with catchy songs set in the most beautiful atmospheric style, their uncanny ability to interperet them live is something you have to see for yourself. And they were all completely lovely. The 'medieval folktronica' genre-lisation doesn't say it all by any stretch of the imagination. a couple of their songs: RearrangeTangled Up In Stars (live acoustic)Shut Eye

I meant to say before ... I listened to Elephant and although I like them, maybe not enough to buy ... (and I never download illegally!).
But as for Metric - I was slow getting into them but now I can't stop! I keep waking up in the middle of the night singing "Youth Without Youth" and "Speed the Collapse"!
'Synthetica' is the best album of 2012 for me ...

After Not Your Kind of People, Synthetica was probably close second for me in 2012

To be honest I got quite heavily into looking way further and wider for music during 2012, a lot of internet hours as well as more gigs and even getting down to Camden Crawl. Running a song of the day blog is also a good way to keep in the habit of looking. I think Elephant's stuff on there doesn't really do justice to how well they came across live, didn't go as far as buying any myself, although I'll be keeping an eye on them. Anyhow I'm glad to see people liking Metric, they're kind of understated (at least in the UK) for the massive band they now are. The back-catalogue is worth looking into, whilst they evolved from being a more simple and more guitar driven band, I think all their songs are incredibly well written going right back. Got way into Dark Horses' album last week, some of the most atmospheric music I've heard since HB's debut.
