It bugs me somewhat when bands release CDs without printed lyrics sheets. And guess what? Neither Howling Bells album has lyrics included. Boo! Hiss! How many times have you sung along merrily to a song only to discover at some later date that what you've been singing is not actually what the songwriter put down on paper? For instance, after years of delusion I was shocked and saddened to learn that Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody did not include the line "Spare him his life from these pork sausages". My entire adolescence had been a lie. Then there was the occasion I hit on the idea of trying to impress a girl I fancied by writing to her with the complete lyrics of Jimi Hendrix's Love or Confusion. However, this cunning plan soon hit the buffers when I realised I couldn't make out all the words. Needless to say me and her never got it together. I console myself with the thought that she's probably now 25 stone with acne, bad breath and a limp, with kids called Zabian, JaMarcus, Antowain and DeShane by four different fathers. Anyway, I digress. The lyrics of Howling Bells are quite easy to come across, but to save you the trouble, they're here: www.megaupload.com/?d=FIOXN2SB However, I haven't yet been able to find a full set of lyrics for Radio Wars. Can anybody help? Come on, spare me the years of pork sausages and fat, spotty, smelly women who can walk only with the aid of a stick.

Thanks saturnine - that's great, but unfortunately it has only served to exacerbate the dilemma. I've only had a quick glance through so far but I've already found some anomalies.
For example, this link has the first line of Cities Burning Down as "Trying to rise the water". I've also seen it as "Trapped in rising water" and "Dreamt of rising water". I always thought it was the third of these.
And the Into the Chaos lyrics given here include the line "It's in our side". That doesn't seem to make sense to me - I intepret it as "It's in our sight".
Therein lies the problem - if the band doesn't print them, many lyrics are open to interpretation, and we interpret things differently.
By the way, if you hadn't already guessed, I was only joking about the pork sausages thing. I was just trying to insert a bit of wacky humour and I've always hated that song so I don't care what the lyrics are!
P.S. The Love or Confusion bit was true though, but I bet she's not really fat, smelly and spotty with four dysfunctional kids now. I bet she's still gorgeous. Her name was Marie and she worked behind the bar of a pub I used to frequent. I just might have to look her up........

I've seen lyrics for Setting Sun go: "And we'll rise and fall despite the setting sun".

Thank you for the lyrics - some lines are very hard to understand for me, it's a pity because their lyrics are so beautiful. Does Juanita write all of the lyrics?

I always thought that the song has to be about a stupid ex-boyfriend. ;D

I have sliced and diced small lyrics booklets for both the debut and RW. As my english understanding from singing only is so-so, I kinda need it to hum along. I was also glad to see that TLE had a real booklet but only 7 out of the 12 songs had lyrics. Maybe the other songs were so lyrically loose that they couldn´t appear. I remember Doves having same kind of booklets, they also had just half of the songs and they were in a different order than they were on the disc.
Too bad, more slice and dice to follow with the Bells and songmeanings.net. The graphics are really cool. They have taken the psych look quite far and it´s certainly colourful.

It's def cool to be able to read atleast summa the lyrix, thumbs up for that. Myself, I've always found Juanita fairly comprehensible at most points anyways though. I simply Love the way that 'without me' line sounds on Into The Sky. Aside - anybodyever figure out WTF Ritzy of TJF is on about in ANY of their songs? I'm 2 EPs, an LP and 4 gigs none the wiser...

You're spot on with Ritzy! You can only ever make out the odd word here and there. I saw some of the lyrics in a review of The Big Roar and it was just as undecipherable reading it! Still, The Joy Formidable are in my top five fave bands.
And yes, Juanita is usually crystal clear. But whoever printed the 'Invisible' lyrics needs to learn the difference between "Your" and "You're" and "Were" and "We're"!!

Yes, Juanita sings quite clearly and most of the words are more or less understandable unless it goes to some ooohh-aaahhhs. It´s just that the lyrics are not really understandable as stories. Usually not even two consecutive lines mean anything to each other. For instance a verse from Setting Sun goes like this:
Doers will do for me What sinners could never dream Science is in your head Nobody hurts them selves but themselves can't you tell?
It fits to the music so well but when it´s printed it appears quite mystical, maybe even nonsense. What is going on in there?
Yeah, it´s probably a good thing most of the HB-lyrics are not printed. They exist as complete stories only in the mind.

I actually have this theory now that Ritzy's really insistent looking & borderline angry facial expressions may well derive from the fact that none of the audiences have a clue what she's on about...
