I haven't seen Home and Away for ages (it's as Aussie soap on British TV, for you bemused overseas readers) but I sit down and turn it on tonight and there, in the background, is a familiar song.
It was, indeed, "Golden Web" and as the scene ended the volume rose for the last few seconds. Does the band get royalties for that?

Yeah , whether its played in a Restaurant or at a football match or on TV the PRS makes sure that the songwriter gets some sort of royalty Its quite a small amount usually, and is what sparked the whole you tube kerfuffle. www.prsformusic.com/Pages/default.aspx

So, has anybody ever heard any Howling Bells music played in the background on any other TV shows? I know about Low Happening on The OC - see Episode 13 below: www.theoc-music.com/season3.htmlAny others anywhere else?

They were on Home and Away again tonight! (Come on, there's nothing else on at 6.30pm). This time it was the instrumental version of Into The Chaos.

Honestly I haven't watched Home and Away since the last time I posted on this thread, but, there they are again.
This time it was the instrumental version of Cities Burning Down.

Howling Bells were on Home and Away again tonight. No music this time, but a big poster on the wall advertising Radio Wars.
No music? Ha! I didn't wait long enough. Later there was Cities Burning Down, the end bit where the band leave the stage when they play it live.

Tonight it was Into the Chaos, the whole song, but only quiet in the background. I hope they're getting loads of dosh for all these TV soap audio appearances.
The prospect of hearing Howling Bells has now actually drawn me in to watching Home and Away quite regularly, despite it being somewhat dire viewing.

Just a bit of meaningless trivia..... I was listening to an audio recording of this seven-part interview www.truveo.com/search?query=channel%3Aten+howling+bells+interview&searchtype=generalin the car, then when I got home "Home and Away" was on TV and I thought I recognised the voice of one of the characters. Indeed it's the man who interviews Juanita and Joel. His name is Axle Whitehead (his character's name is Liam Murphy).

Ahahaha - he's pretty famous over here. He was a runner-up on Australian Idol, then hosted Video Hits for about four years until he was fired for 'exposing' himself at the ARIA awards while drunk. Then he came out with a mildly successful album, and became an actor on Home and Away. It's a pretty interesting story, really.
