Lovely surprise turned up in the post this morning...I have the new Radio Wars special edition CD delivered by townsendrecords and it's signed by all the band. It did not think it was out until next week?

Mine too! When you order in advance they usually arrive a day or two before the official release. I got the two vinyl singles on Saturdays too, when they were released on the Monday.
I'm listening to the live disc now (from the Paradiso, Amsterdam, last November). Crystal clear quality.
One slight disappointment - no lyrics sheets.

The 'missing track' is there but you have to be patient! There's about a two minute gap after How Long before it begins. It's called "To LA" but you wouldn't know it from the sleeve.

Mine has arrived, its a lovely package and well thought out. The autographs look great as well. The band have obviously took their time and not rushed them. Thanks guys.

Same tracklisting as the promo though Yeah - first we got the two joined tracks on the leak & promo, then we hear (from the band itself) that those are meant to be separate......and yet the album has them joined still. Very odd! It's a really nice design though. The cover now seems to work in the context of the book due to the amount of black and, as said elsewhere, those signatures are really very good indeed. Love how each has signed their pic!

Just listening to it again, full blast, rather than the low volume I had to play it at this morning. The sound is so much fuller, deeper than those downloaded mp3 files.

Got mine this morning too, very happy with the whole package. It's nice to have a physical copy at last.
It's cool that the live CD is from Paradiso, since I happened to be at that show.

I just looked at the CD on iTunes UK, and there's a bonus track called "Breaking My Back" if anyone's interested

Breaking My Back - I've just downloaded it from iTunes. Where would we be without you, Liv, finding all this stuff for us?
It's definitely worth buying. In my opinion, Breaking My Back, Hearts & Armor and The Spirited Ones are better than a couple of tracks on the album.

No problem! I agree--I think this and "Hearts&Armor" are definitely album worthy. "the spirited ones" too...It's always a good way to see how great a band are when their b-sides are better than the a-sides of others!

Got my special edition today. Nice packaging, I like this cardboard / digipak thingy if it's done well. Nice pictures in there. The music: goosebumps. Love it. Simply love it. I can't really tell if I like this one better or their debut, but comparisons are silly anyways. The cover image... well, hmm, I just ignore it. It's a big disappointment compared to the beautiful and artful one from their debut (damn, didn't I just say comparisons are silly?). Now take cover, rant starts here: #1: Why the bloody hell do bands or managers or record labels still think that ending a CD with two tracks joined together to one with a big dead silent gap of several minutes length inbetween is a clever or neat idea? This is stone age!! This doesn't impress anyone anywhere anymore. This maybe was a neat idea fifteen years ago. It just makes all our lives more complicated because we just can't skip to lovely "To L.A." directly if we want to, and we have to do some hand work in order to upload them songs properly and separated to our OGG-player. Argh ( pant pant pant) #2: "Breaking My Back" is available on iDunes only? Sigh. Nowadays about... well... several million people in the world don't use Windoze and Mac OS (iDunes runs on these only) but a free and sophisticated system called Linux (no iDunes there because of Apple not willing to) instead. Which means: I do. Why isn't the song available at 7digital or similar sites as well? But at least I can go to someone who runs these other systems and buy from there... Rant ends here. Uhm, yes. ;D Final note: best album of the year so far!!!! And it will compete heavily with the new The Church album due in the very near future...

My CD also arrived, but it is at the local post counter, because no one was at home when it was delivered, so the postman wrote a letter of advice and i had no time to go there today. Tomorrow i will also have no time, but i think i will pick it up on Friday... (Don't know why they didn't give it to the neighbours.)

Hello there,
I'm a fan of Howling Bells since last summer. Have been reading here for a while. Now that the new album has finally arrived in the post, I'd like to share my views:
I'm very disappointed with the cover. I usually find it not very original and creative to have photos of the band members on the cover and this is no exception. Garish colours and mugshots. It's such a contrast to the arty sleeve of the debut. Having said that, the corresponding pics in profile in the booklet are a nice touch. But generally, the artwork looks too cheap.
But as it's the music that really counts, here's a quick song by song rating:
1. Treasure Hunt - Optimistic, uplifting start to the album, 9/10 2. Cities Burning Down - A classic, would have been wasted as a b-side, 10/10 3. It Ain't You - Great hooks, wish they'd repeat the chorus at least once at the end, 9/10 4. Nightingale - Utterly sublime, 10/10 5. Let's Be Kids - Disappointingly one-dimensional and cheesy chorus, appreciate the sentiment of the lyrics but the simple music lets it down, nice middle eight though, 5/10 6. Ms Bell's Song - Great melancholic vibe, love the vocals, especially the way Juanita sings the second "time", 9/10 7. Radio Wars Theme - Failed attempt at being experimental, main riff too similar to Radiohead's "A Wolf At The Door", slightly boring, 4/10 8. Golden Web - dig the electro sounds, great atmosphere during the verses (especially when the Cure-like guitar riff kicks in), 9/10 9. Into The Chaos - infectious, 9.5/10 10. Digital Hearts - well-executed rocker to shake things up a bit, 9/10 11. How Long - without the drums this would be just plain boring, but with these annoying drums (which don't fit in at all) it's nerve-racking to listen to, 1/10 12. To L.A. - Successful attempt at being experimental, 8.5/10 Average score: 7.8/10
So, overall I am quite pleased: Apart from the irritating How Long, the naff Let's Be Kids and boring interlude of Radio Wars Theme, the songwriting and production are top notch. I love that they focussed on some of the cinematic, atmospheric style of the debut.
Have to agree with timetunnel that it's not very clever to have "To LA" as a hidden track. Especially with such a dud as "How Long" stuck in front and not being able to skip it.
Really curious to listen to the b-sides. Could anyone be so kind as to supply me with a digital version of The Spirited Ones as I don't own a record player?
