New link for Howling Bells gig history added 23rd December 2009: www.megaupload.com/?d=USFLVAYPThere's also a direct link to the Excel spreadsheet here: www.xanthein.co.uk/(but it might not be up to date) ========================================= (original post) Earlier this evening I had this stupid idea of attempting to formulate a definitive list of all the gigs Howling Bells have played, anywhere in the world, since they decided to grace our shores with their presence in 2005, for which we are all eternally grateful. Only a few minutes' research came up with over a hundred gigs, beginning in December 2005. And I've only reached March 2007!! And I'm sure I've missed a few, as I know for certain there were some in February 2006 and October 2006 that I haven't found yet. Nor have I found any in the USA or Australia yet! I need some advice - is this an impossible task? If I present a list in a few days can others help me fill in the gaps? Help!!!

Cheers for the encouragement Lee. I'll have a go over the next few days and then email you with the list as an attachment, then we can throw it back and forth. When we've got it something like we can show it on the board for other people to comment on/add to.

Good luck to you! I did one for the U.K band Midget - www.xanthein.co.uk/midget/gigs/gigs.htm It took a lot of hard work, although I was lucky to have the whole band to help me Don't give up on it. I'm sure it can be done. I can provide info on the Bells gigs I've been to.

Like a marathon runner with five miles to go, I think I've hit the wall, and I need an energy boost!
I've found 240-plus gigs between October 2005 and November 2008. That's one every four and a half days!
I think I've got Britain pretty much sewn up (but I'm sure there are some missing), apart from maybe some dates when they supported The Editors, plus if there were any really early (summer/autumn 2005) in London pubs or the like.
I've found several in Europe, Australia and the USA but there must be more. There are one or two really big gaps (back home with family, recording in LA??).
I've also added gig review links where I've found them.
Lee - I'll email the list to you. Xanthein - I don't have your email address - either email or PM me and then I'll send you the list.
If you add anything to it, do it in red text or something so it stands out, and save it under another name.
P.S. That Midget list is about 500 long!

After extensive googling and other research (i.e. what I remember), I've finally come up with a Howling Bells gig list from October 2005-November 2008. I'm sure it's not complete (especially in the early days) but it can't be far off.
You can find it here and you will need Microsoft Excel to read it:
[see first post of thread]
I've found 267 confirmed gigs in just over three years touring - that's 87 per year or one every 4.2 days. They must be very tired.
I reckon the UK gigs (from December 2005 anyway) are just about done, but if you find any errors or omissions either post them here or PM me. There must be some I've missed in the USA, Australia and maybe Europe, so any new information would be welcome. I also found conflicting information now and again, so where that happened I made an educated guess about what was right - the particular day they played at a 3-day festival, for instance, and apparently they played Nottingham and Exeter on the same night in May 2006. I've added www links to reviews where I've found them, so again, any others you know about, let me know.
The next job is to calculate the mileage from gig to gig and come up with a total distance travelled. Now, how far is it from Birmingham to Los Angeles via Brisbane..........?

I know being a long standing Garbage fan there are ways of doing it as one particular fansite has such a database (1995-2005) so if you are ever stuck I can always ask on your behalf though in writing this it looks like you have sorted it. Well done!

Xanthein has cast his eye over the gig list, suggested one or two things, added lots of links to his photos and generally jazzed it up.
The new link is here:
[see first post of thread]
We're not claiming it's complete so anybody feel free to point out any mistakes or omissions.
P.S. I like Garbage too!

Xanthein has been busy and has added links to his Youtube videos to the gig list. The new link is here:
[see later - updated 14th January 2009]
There are loads of other Howling Bells videos on Youtube so if anybody fancies gathering all the links together and putting them in some sort of order, volunteers welcome......

Quite by accident (I was looking for nothing in particular) I found Placebo's website which lists all the gigs they have ever played, going back to 1995, including many of their support bands. I noticed a couple I didn't have from the festival tour of July 2007 and a couple I had on the wrong dates, so I've updated the Howling Bells gig list to include these. New link: [see later - updated 18th January] For any Placebo fans out there, their gig list is here: www.placeboworld.co.uk/tour/

I've found a review for an early Howling Bells gig in New York (October 2005), a date for which I didn't previously have confirmation.
I've also found why a 2006 gig in Cambridge was cancelled and rearranged for later - Juanita lost her voice!
Updated link to the gig list:

I'm getting some sort of perverse pleasure out of this, and my endeavours have now produced the earliest Howling Bells gigs I have yet found - 4 in Australia in July, August and September 2005.
Here's the new link:
