Unfortunately, I couldn't purchase it due to geographical restrictions since I live in the US. Oh well. I'm curious to see if the physical release, if there is one, will have any additional b-sides.

I've listened to this a few times now - LOUD - and what a tremendous song! Joel really gives it some, like he's got the freedom to show what a good guitarist he is.

Does anyone know how to pre-order the new album, or get the single, in the U.S.?? The new album doesn't even show up on our amazon

Does anyone know how to pre-order the new album, or get the single, in the U.S.?? The new album doesn't even show up on our amazon Their website store has international options at the bottom right of checkout screen. Pre-ordered mine from their website, it feels more righteous. Wish they were doing something fancy like signing the first 50 copies etc... or a ltd edition (sighs looking at signed BludRedShoes & TJF stuff...)

Yes, it is on the US Amazon. I will probably pre-order off of the Howling Bells website tho, I think they get more money that way. Bit off subject, but I was looking at the Bestsellers in Music list on Amazon, and The Pierces You & I, that Glenn played some drums on, has been in the Top 100 for 94 days and is currently #12 in the UK. Not doing quite as good in the US, it is currently #4,216. Glenn is prolly getting some nice big juicy royalty checks in the mail tho. (Backup) (Backup)

Thanks for the input. I swear it wasn't on our amazon a few days ago, must've just put it up. I agree, I'll probably pre-order it from their site.

1 September 2011Australia’s foremost dreamers of dark dreams return with a new single, taken from their album The Loudest Engine. Which, by a huge dint of coincidence, is available as a free download from this very site! I love those coincidences. The single, as expected, showcases the more radio-friendly side of the band, less the shimmery electro-pop wooziness that stamps their sound. Over a driving bassline and muffled guitars, lead singer Juanita Stein comes in with her polite Siouxsie-Sioux-on-Prozac vocals, her light and airy style working well with the more impressive lift of the chorus. A little too much shimmeriness in the guitars makes the vocals hard to decipher, though I get the feeling the words aren’t as crucial. A mix of Cocteau Twins otherness with mainstream indie freshness is the order of the day. Stein’s elevation to sexy sexpot (in the eyes of Gigwise, at least) has no doubt helped push the band further mainstream. If that sounds cynical, then imagine SuBo in tights, headbands and see-thru shirts. Sick yet? This isn’t a showstopper of a song so we’ll have to wait before the Bells set the nation on fire with their dark, woozy, but essentially pretty and cutesy music.

Every time some band adds a little space to their sound, then a light bulb lights over the head of a journalist who has only scratched the surface of music. Cocteau Twins! Yeah right, lazy.

Album ordered from the bands site. Everything seemed to work out just fine so far.

12 September 2011The Killers? A band we love to hate, but in some strange twist of fate their bassist (and I bet you that this will be mentioned in every review) Mark Stoermer has produced Australia’s Howling Bells third album. To top it off ‘Into the Sky’ has received the video treatment and is a sort of preview of what’s to come.
I have this image of people hoping that it’s a disaster. I mean, Howling Bells have this dramatic aura which they clothe their songs with. It’s bound to be a failure.
But it isn’t.
In fact it’s damn good!
‘Into the Sky’ has all the elements that makes Howling Bells so good (that sense of drama) but it’s more melodic and anthemic. I especially love the way the song just bursts open after a minute and showers you with Juanita’s Stein’s voice. Sure there’s a solo that’s a teensy bit cheesy but I’ll definitely forgive them for it. If you thought that Howling Bells were a cult band, think no further. Their time has come.
