Howling Bells' support band at the Scala gig is Clock Opera.
Anyone know anything about them?

Anyone there last night? Really enjoyed it - new stuff sounds amazing - Joel's guitar work was stunning. Can't wait for this new record. Juanita was saying they hope to get it out by September.
I got to meet the band afterwards at the top bar - all delightful and very enthusiastic about the new album and welcomed the feedback. Glenn wants people to request album titles for them!

I was there last night. Absolutely loved the new songs especially Sioux and Wilderness(?). In fact much of the older stuff sounded a little bit pedestrian in comparison (although still great obviously). Juanita invited the whole crowd to the Lexington pub afterwards so we decided to join them. Managed to chat with them all briefly and had my pic taken with Juanita Shame it's a bit blurry though!

There was one song last night I really loved - she sings about "wheels moving" or something over again - does anyone have any idea what song that might be?

Nice write-up, nice blog!
The song with the wheels moving I guess would be "The Loudest Engine", which is about living on the tour bus!
I've got some mid-late-90s Garbage postcards by the way, from when I was on their mailing list (a proper mailing list, before emails!). I'll take some photos and upload them in the 'other music' section.

Yes remember the days of mailing lists - filling out the cards that came with albums!

Hi, OK so I've just driven back up from London after two busy days with countless rides on Stealth and Saw the Ride at Thorpe, a trancendant front seat ride on Colossus, a buzzy Joy Formidable gig and after-party, and 450 miles of driving. The highlight though (and what would've been alone worth the drive) was seeing Howling Bells perform at the Scala. I was pretty late arriving, and the band came on literally as I'd bought my drink and taken up my spot on the Guest balcony. I was maybe a little, um, kettled so my memories are a little disorganised... I know I had a fabulous time - to my joy they played a good selection of old favourites from the first album, not so much from the second and a good array of new songs. The new stuff seemed more emotionally textured, more free/rocky/jammy and more diverse, a kinda develish Hendrix meets Fleetwood Mac fire-breeze, maybe a little psychadelic in a way (-yeah I'm lost for the words tbh). I think all four of them have deveolped their musicianship an astonishing amount over the last few years resulting in a sound which is a touch more upbeat, freeer flowing, with more drive, whilst also more intimate, virtuosic and deep- Basically they've gone in like all directions that I've always wanted to see them go in, but more importantly to me they seem to be enjoying themselves and doing what they wanna do moreso than before. Their performance style illustrated that they've more recently become accustomed to supporting in larger venues, and whilst this was cool to watch from a balcony I'm guessing if they headline smaller gigs they'd maybe wannoo be more interactive or play up more to the audience. They are fab performers though - especially Juanita's dancing which was so free, nimble and stylish that it had me a bit transfixed, as did Joel's solo guitarwork. I breifly met Juanita, Glenn & Joel afterwards - they're wonderful people. I'm the guy in the white shirt in riseandfalls photo (not the most flattering one of me but hey ho). I think the name for their new album should be something that relates to chimes / howls / ringing / heat / heart / soul / wild / wolf / siren and the desert. Maybe 'Desert Heart', 'Chiming Soul' or 'Breeze Siren Flame'... 'Hot Strip'? Yeah the last ones a Vegas joke though. Sadly I didn't get to the Lexington - kinda got drunk and missed the beat on that one - would love to have done though. To conclude, well, I used to say my joint favourite bands were Howling Bells and The Vines, but now I've gorra put Howling Bells on top - truly they make my heart sing like nothing before has. Stay Howling!

I think you've captured kerbdodger in the background of your photo. kerbdodger, if you read this, is this you? Into the Sky sounds awesome. Seems like it has sort of an 80's pop-punk sound. Maybe that's not the best description, but I dunno. Glenn's droppin' some bombs on top of the killer riff of The Loudest Engine. Brendan's yo-yo'n his bass out too. This is dope. I would really like to see the Bells explore this direction in the future sometime.

Now that was better article. The EP is called Invisible then? Also, I don´t think the EP has been out in any other place than Pledge and that is closed by now, unlike the article says.
I have been playing the EP every day. It gets better and better and there is no weak links. I can´t wait for the album!

^ and an uptodate photo finally! Yeah according to their pledge blurb it was a limited release on pledge only, also interestingly 2 of the 4 tracks were recorded specially & are not from the album. I'm also playing it daily, feel like I just keep falling more in love with it. They've really gone somewhere brilliant with their music this time IMO. Maybe this year for a change I'm hoping Summer does end... Here Comes September... /Howl
