Great show from The Duke Spirit last night! They're great live, and Liela Moss really is an exceptional frontwoman - in fact I don't think I really paid any notice to the rest of the band! I think bands with a big sound like them, TJF & etc tend to sound quite special in the sub-train-ia of the cockpit.
I think I saw Blade or a lookalike somewhere on the left there?

I was looking for you Andy but didn't spot you.
Yes, I was strategically placed so that Liela had to squeeze past me four times to and from the stage.....
The Cockpit is a great venue, with its convex roof that reflects the sound back down. Having said that, Liela's vocals weren't clear to begin with but the sound desk sorted that out soon enough.
I was surprised how little they played off the new(ish) album, but it was indeed a tremendous show.

^ TBH seeing them live has kind of clicked something I hadn't entirely 'got' about their music into place for me.
^^ lol yeah it does amuse me where the door is relative to the stage there. It's my favourite venue seconded by Thekla in Bristol; which is similar size but in the hull of a boat. I'd love to see a converted underground station one day though. I was to the right about four rows back and about 4 people to the right of centre, with some drunk loon going mental and jumping up and down on me for the first 25 mins before he got in some argument, then himself removed - I was in a good mood and remained unbothered by this though. I'm somewhat bearded atm compared to Autumn so maybe not that recognisable. A shame bout Leila's vocals being drowned on the first couple of songs, after that point though it was flawless. Maybe they highlighted songs off Bruiser more in whatever set they had back for the Autumn tour? Certainly this was a good bunch of songs to pick for a gig though, & kept my full attention throughout.

I'm just watching CSI New York and they're playing The Duke Spirit's "Procession". Do they get royalties for that? You'd hope so.

I recently discovered The Duke Spirit as well. Wow. They are SO good! "Cherry Tree" and "Don't Wait" are a couple of my favorites. I hope they come tour the U.S. at some point.

Do they have a new album coming out, by the way?

Glad somebody's still tuning in, because the Bells are a bit quiet at the moment (though they have Tweeted and Facebooked - if they are verbs - that they are back in the studio).
You missed The Duke Spirit in the US in the summer. They toured with Jane's Addiction, and played at:
JUNE 1 SAN DIEGO - CASBAH JUNE 3 LOS ANGELES - ECHOPLEX JUNE 4 SAN FRANCISCO - SLIM'S JUNE 6 PORTLAND - STAR THEATER JUNE 7 SEATTLE - NEUMO'S JUNE 10 MINNEAPOLIS - TRIPLE ROCK JUNE 11 CHICAGO - LINCOLN HALL JUNE 12 DETROIT - THE CROFOOT JUNE 13 CLEVELAND - GROG SHOP JUNE 15 BOSTON - BRIGHTON MUSIC HALL JUNE 16 NEW YORK CITY - HIGHLAND BALLROOM
No Wisconsin though, which is probably why you missed them. No news of a new album either, but they have a new song and video out. Check out 'Glorious' on Youtube.
