Au Revoir Simone is an all-girl trio from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City. None of them are called Simone. They are, in fact, Heather D’Angelo, Erika Forster and Annie Hart. Their music is simply constructed, comprising only vocal harmonies, keyboards, synthesisers and a drum machine. No guitars, no bass, no real drums. According to their Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au_revoir_simonetheir style of music is electronic dream pop but their Myspace page www.myspace.com/aurevoirsimonesays it is Indie/Pop/Electro. Whatever it’s called, it’s remarkably appealing. Their lyrics often express a certain innocence (unless there’s some hidden meaning I can’t get!). For example: “You make me want to measure stars in the back yard with a calculator and a ruler baby, I found a letter that describes how the moonlight will lead me to a distant place where you will be….”They have released three albums, and they seem to like odd-number years, so expect another in 2011: Verses of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation (2005) The Bird of Music (2007) Still Night, Still Light (2009) Here are some Youtube links: Sad Song www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFG-cUQ1a8kDark Halls www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW1aQvlGDfo&feature=relatedFallen Snow www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXmKpB9dn3c&feature=related
