Sometimes you stumble on something so fresh and lively quite by chance, and this is one such occasion. I read a brief snippet about The Kiara Elles in "The Fly" music magazine and thought, hey, they might be OK, so I checked their Myspace to find out. I was knocked back. They call themselves electro/new wave/post punk and they reminded me of Altered Images, but with a lot more edge. (All right, I know you have to be of a certain age to remember Altered Images.....) The three songs with videos on their Myspace page ("Odio", "The Bet" and "Laser Shot" are so catchy and spontaneous they stick in your head after just one listen. The singer is called Chiara Lucchini (after whom the band is named). She is Italian but has lived in Yorkshire for so long she has an accent that is a weird concoction of Italian and broad Leeds. It comes through in her vocals, which makes her sound quite enigmatic. They have an EP coming out in early May. www.myspace.com/thekiaraellesFellow Chasing Lullabies board member Von Pip likes them too: vonpipmusicalexpress.wordpress.com/2010/02/25/something-for-the-weekend-we-26022010/

I was wrong about their EP coming out in early May - it's actually their first album, called Slide Over.
The 4-track vinyl EP was released last October and comes in a hald-made sleeve (using wallpaper!) and signed by the band. I bought one from Norman's Records.
