The band I'm listening to most at the moment is The Cardigans. For such an unassuming part of the world, those Scandinavians make some damn fine music (especially Sweden).
They've been around a long time (formed in 1992 Wikipedia tells me) and released their first album - for some strange reason called Emmerdale - in 1994. They've recorded five more albums since, which is hardly prolific. I have them all.
Some of their early stuff was a bit sugary-sweet (Carnival, Rise and Shine, Love Fool) but there was enough material on their first three albums to show that there was a Proper Rock Band aching to get out.
They finally shook off their poppy side with their 1998 album Gran Turismo, which included the rocking My Favourite Game. They waited five years to release their fifth album Long Gone Before Daylight in 2003, followed by Super Extra Gravity in 2005. Since then they have not broken up, but neither are they still together.
My favourite of their albums is Long Gone Before Daylight, which contains some really poetic and emotional songs, none more so than And Then You Kissed Me, which is about a woman in a violent relationship who forgives the abusive man whenever he kisses her. Tear-jerking stuff.

And finally, a quirky fact about singer Nina Persson. She can tie a knot in a cherry stalk using only her tongue. I know, I've seen her do it, on live TV.
