Brilliant, although there's less 'yodeling' for sure... Sadly I spotted a little too soon before the date to arrange. 'My Brightest Diamond' is another brilliant act coming around, with 'Battle Lines' supporting to boot, but sadly not a logistical possibility for me either. Right now, thoroughly enjoying La Femme - Psycho Tropical Berlinan hour ago it was Fuzz - FuzzIn my car (devoid of a radio aerial..) Warpaint - Warpaint is spinning endlessly. Mark Riley's show was on the radio whilst I stuck around to finish a little project at work.. A delightful day by all accounts...

I finally got around to my first listen of 'The Other I' by 2:54. This is perhaps something I had been putting off a little given how whilst I do adore the first album, I find it hard to ignore the relatively cold and brooding atmosphere breathing through. Finally taking the plunge I have found myself more than pleasantly surprised, they certainly have taken that mean edge off, in fact there's much more of a warm and uplifting vibe on 'The Other I'. I note they've been criticized for producing something less 'edgy', but personally I'm just seeing a more mellow approach by a band who are growing up, developing and embracing more delicate styles. Through incorporating more, but more subtle complexities; whilst still keeping enough of a mean edge at heart; I feel a greater depth and value is created in the music. On touring recently they didn't play in Leeds, Blade did see them in Sheffield and posted recently here, his thoughts in some ways affirming my suspicions that they might have more strength in a studio than in front of an audience, but it hasn't put him (or me) off going along next time so we will see what the future holds... On an aside, I do find myself drawing parallels against Mazzy Star and Warpaint, two other bands who I regard very highly, and I reckon fans of these two might find something here. On the other hand, the delightful Courtney Barnett's 'The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas' is bringing a little sunshine to me in the darkness of December in West Yorkshire. Hailing from Melbourne and casting out some fascinating stories with a great sense of humour if not optimism; with a bright and kinda loose style, I don't think she can help but bring a little happiness!

BBC's One Big Weekend heralds in the season of big, televised festivals, I had a fantastic day yesterday taking in some stunning sets from Charli XCX, Florence and the Machine, and Muse, all of who were on impeccable form. I think today could be similarly fabulous by all accounts. I have to love just how completely pop-centred this festival honestly is. It might be eclectic and wildly varied (Florence summed this up rather nicely when on the main stage she commented: 'We were a little nervous about coming on with an acoustic set after David Guetta...") but one thing you can expect is a lot of well written and unashamedly catchy songs; which are all too easy to find yourself singing along to. It's quite a real-time snapshot of where much of the high charting, up and coming music is at in the here and now, as the night draws giving way to more established bands we can all reminisce over. I look forward to another day in front of the telly... It feels like a good time for a muse over this year so far... It's been a quiet year for me by all accounts. I miss working in the city but my wallet doesn't miss the endlessly buying records of a lunchtime or after work.... I'm pleased to hear there's more out from Braids in the form of "Deep in the Iris", not got around to getting deeply into it yet but I will. Courtney Barnett's ensuing album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit has been a firm favorite this year, so has Ratworld by Menace Beach who to me certainly are one of the best bands to emerge from Leeds in a good while. There's a new single called Hunting out by local band Battle Lines.. I hope to see an LP from them at some point... And there's a new single in Welsh from TJF... I didn't attend Live At Leeds, the line up didn't honestly have too much appeal, and I don't mind putting myself in 'fallow' for Reading & Leeds this year, but then The Glastonbury 2015 line up looks just fantastic, so already I'm quietly wishing that somehow I get teleported to Pilton when the time comes....

After months listening to Sarah P (ex-Keep Shelly In Athens), I got a free download of a compilation named 'Bizarre' that she features on. There were 23 tracks on it, of which just two were any good - Sarah P (of course) and a pair of Swedish sisters called Johanna and Nina Piroth, who go under the name 'Lokatt'.As far as I can tell they've released only one track ('The Hill') and one collaboration ('Our Time') with an another Swedish artist called 'The Land Below'. Swedish music has always been a big favourite of mine (The Cardigans, Sophie Zelmani, Sad Day For Puppets, The Sounds), so Lokatt are off to a good start. Thanks for a couple of excellent finds there Blade I will be keeping an eye on them both and hope to hear more...
Braids are playing Leeds and Sheffield on 25th and 30th of this month respectively. I'm going to go to their Leeds show if I aren't to late to get myself a ticket..
As for me everything has become quite focused on The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails over the last couple of weeks... I seem to have transgressed away from the songs I used to skip to and now I'm into the ones I always used to skip... crazy really...
