Free, gratis, geen kosten - lucky you! I hope the bands get paid somehow!
Groningen is right in the north of the Netherlands isn't it? Never been there but I did once travel along that road that cuts off the Ijsselmeer from the sea, but I only went as far as Friesland.

that's great news - I'm happy for you! We who live close to London seem to get more chances to see them for free, so it's about time someone else got a chance!

Friesland, in general, is a lot more rural than Groningen (the province). As for the city itself, it's a proper student city and very lively. Definitely worth checking out sometime - but then again I would say that, wouldn't I? @ evesp: thanks Anyone know any of the other bands, by the way? Any recommendations? I only know The Black Lips but not too fond of them.

Just got back; the (festival-ish) stage was at the perfect setting: in front of water (reflecting the whole thing) and surrounded by trees, yet it had a festival feel and quite a big turn up. Unfortunately I was probably the only person who knew even 1 song of them, so there wasn't much singing along. The biggest downer, however, were the technical difficulties they were having. Juanita was having guitar problems halfway through and they had some backing track problems which meant they couldn't play "a couple of songs" (at the very least Treasure Hunt and Into The Chaos but possibly others as well...). An unfortunately short set, then, but they still managed to blow me away and they felt way more at home at a big festival stage where they can walk around lots than the small indoor stage I've seen them at before. EDIT: Oh crap, completely forgot to mention: they were walking around on the festival beforehand and I walked into them a few times! Of course, being the only person who actually knew who they were, I was the only one freaking out. I didn't want to bother them cause they seemed quite busy (and I didn't want to be that annoying groupie) but I do regret it now. And man, are they as stunning up close as they are on a far away stage

You should have spoken to them - they wouldn't have minded. They're nice, approachable, friendly people. I think they'd have been really pleased to see someone from the Netherlands who recognised them!

Yeah, I know, all kind of happened too fast. What's more, I didn't bring my camera along; my parents were there and they brought theirs but it was shit =/ so hopefully the festival will put up some pics.

Great photos! The lighting reflecting on the water is brilliant.
